The Hollywood Reporter recently talked to Ryan during the opening ceremony of Hua Hin International Film Festival in Bankok. He talked about not getting an Oscar nomination, which he really, really should have gotten for “Drive“, Sexiest Man Alive and “Only God Forgives“.

The actor, who’s filming “Only God Forgives” in Thailand, tells THR he’s “been dreaming about making a film in Bangkok.”

Ryan Gosling is overseas in Bangkok, Thailand, where he is preparing to film Only God Forgives with director Nicolas Winding Refn.

He spoke with The Hollywood Reporter at the Hua Hin International Film Festival, where he was guest of honor at an opening night gala. When asked how he was enjoying the city, Gosling said: “Incredible… Ever since I came here I’ve been dreaming about making a film in Bangkok. I’m happy to be here.”

The actor has spent most of his time preparing for Muay Thai boxing scenes in the upcoming film, which has required 2-3 hour daily training sessions. “It’s sparring basically. They don’t really use weights. Nicolas is doing it as well,” Gosling told THR.

Gosling, who has yet to watch a Muay Thai boxing match, is extremely impressed with the local fighters he’s working with, some of whom are as young as age 6.
“It’s very hard. They have people training around me and they could all beat me up,” he joked.

Gosling was also quick to squash the notion he had been “passed-over” twice recently. First, after not being voted the Sexiest Man Alive, which his loyal fans protested outside the People Magazine offices in New York earlier this year. But the actor told THR: “I voted for Bradley [Cooper] and I’m glad he won.”

When asked if he felt snubbed by the Academy over not receiving an Oscar nomination, Gosling simply said “No.”

The actor has earned both critical praise and awards buzz for his performances in both, The Ides of March and Drive.

Though the actor had little to say about the Oscar snub, he did reveal his desire to work on future colalborations with Refn. “We’re developing an adaptation of Logan’s Run. We have lots of plans” he told THR.

Refn, who wrote the film’s script, agreed with Gosling’s Bangkok sentiments. “I love it… Bangkok is one of my favorite cities — a mixture of everything that’s crazy and beautiful.”

The director also expressed his appreciation for the strong local film culture, which he only hoped to enhance with his and Gosling’s project. “Thai people make great Thai movies… our being here is part of that mix,” Refn said.
