First Look at “Only God Forgives”!
Wild Bunch released the first official production still of Ryan in “Only God Forgives” with “Drive” director Nicolas Winding Refn. They are currently in Thailand to shoot the movie, which is expected to release this year. They are still under negotiations for a distributor deal.
Deadline reports that the deal with FilmDistrict never closed and instead, The Weinstein Company’s VOD/multi-platform shingle Radius — who recently snapped up the Refn produced “Pusher” remake — has beat out a number of suitors (including CBS Films) to land the movie, in what is said to be a $2.5 million pricetag. Frankly, that’s the kind of payout we’d expect from The Weinstein Company proper, not a VOD sideline gig, but we presume this deal will mark that shingle as major players.

WildBunch also has an extensive plot describtion of the movie, and Ryan’s character name is revealed: Julian.
Bangkok. Ten years ago Julian killed a cop and went on the run. Now he manages a Thai boxing club as a front for a drugs operation. Respected in the criminal underworld, deep inside, he feels empty.
When Julian’s brother murders a prostitute the police call on retired cop Chang – the Angel of Vengeance. Chang allows the father to kill his daughter’s murderer, then ‘restores order’ by chopping off the man’s right hand.
Julian’s mother Jenna – the head of a powerful criminal organization – arrives in Bangkok to collect her son’s body. She dispatches Julian to find his killers and ‘raise hell’.Increasingly obsessed with the Angel of Vengeance, Julian challenges him to a boxing match, hoping that by defeating him he might find spiritual release… but Chang triumphs. A furious Jenna plots revenge and the stage is set for a bloody journey through betrayal and vengeance towards a final confrontation and the possibility of redemption.

Such a cruel & brutal plot. Sounds and looks like. Seems to be.

Nicolas Winding Refn is fascinated by violence. Drive was a very “soft” movie for him even with the elevator scene and the crushing head ! I’m impatient to see Only Good forgives, Nicolas WR is so talented ! And it will be very fresh and exotic in Bangkok. Is it the first bad guy role for Ryan ?? great !

I agree with Luc and Natalia, I’m impatient to see this new movie too, event if it’s more violent.
It’s seems so attractive on the one hand, and on the other, so brutal. Yes !
