The Hollywood Reporter recently talked to Ryan during the opening ceremony of Hua Hin International Film Festival in Bankok. He talked about not getting an Oscar nomination, which he really, really should have gotten for “Drive“, Sexiest Man Alive and “Only God Forgives“.

The actor, who’s filming “Only God Forgives” in Thailand, tells THR he’s “been dreaming about making a film in Bangkok.”

Ryan Gosling is overseas in Bangkok, Thailand, where he is preparing to film Only God Forgives with director Nicolas Winding Refn.

He spoke with The Hollywood Reporter at the Hua Hin International Film Festival, where he was guest of honor at an opening night gala. When asked how he was enjoying the city, Gosling said: “Incredible… Ever since I came here I’ve been dreaming about making a film in Bangkok. I’m happy to be here.”

The actor has spent most of his time preparing for Muay Thai boxing scenes in the upcoming film, which has required 2-3 hour daily training sessions. “It’s sparring basically. They don’t really use weights. Nicolas is doing it as well,” Gosling told THR.

As you may have noticed Ryan did not attend the Golden Globes last night (January 15) even though he was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama (The Ides of March) and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical (Crazy, Stupid, Love).

He didn’t win both awards, he lost them to George Clooney (The Descendants) and Jean Dujardin (The Artist).

Ryan was seen last week catching a flight at LAX Airport and according to his “The Ides of March” co-star George Clooney he did indeed flew to Thailand.

He “is in Thailand or something,” the best-actor winner, 50, said of his category rival, 31. “And you know what you do in Thailand.”

“He’s working, I think, in Thailand,” Clooney added. “He wrote me a nice letter, an email, this morning. You know, he’s gotta work, he’s gotta earn a living, he’s a struggling actor.”

Gosling’s rep earlier revealed only that the actor was “working out of the country.” He is said to be shooting Only God Forgives, a mixed martial arts movie set in Bangkok.
